Beer & Food

Here at Cheddar Ales we go to great lengths to ensure that our ales have a distinguished flavour. If you appreciate the flavour of our beers, you are clearly someone of good taste, so you probably appreciate good food as well.

Everyone these days has heard of how well certain wines go with foods. What is not as well known is that beers are often a better accompaniment than wines for many dishes.

Below we have made some suggestions as to what to eat with your Cheddar Ales. We also have some recipes that use Cheddar Ales in the cooking.

Potholer Golden Ale

With its refreshing zesty flavours, Potholer Golden Ale goes very well with chicken and white fish. Try it with a chicken caesar salad, or some spicy chicken curry. Its fruity qualities also mean it is a great accompaniment to nutty cheeses such as gruyere.

Gorge Best Bitter

With its warm malt flavours Gorge Best Bitter is a great accompaniment to more mature cheeses such as a strong Cheddar, so try it with a ploughman's salad or welsh rarebit. It also works well with meat pies.

Totty Pot Dark Porter

As a rich, dark beer with rich malt flavours, Totty Pot goes very well with beef so try it with roast beef or a good steak. It will also complement stews and casseroles made with beef, venison or other game meats. As it is a dark porter, it goes well with oysters, naturally. If you've got a sweet tooth, it also goes rather well with chocolate.
